Accounting Analyst I

Function: 

 

 

Performs a wide range of detailed/complex accounting, analytical and reporting functions and assures day-to-day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies and objectives.  Possesses advanced working knowledge of personal computer and of multiple software programs, including word processing as well as excellent spreadsheet and database proficiency.   

 

Reviews and recommends process improvements to reduce costs and improve work process efficiency.  Assists in ensuring that the Bank is in compliance with internal accounting policies, generally accepted accounting principles, and state and federal regulations.

 

Accountabilities: 

  • Assumes significant responsibilities in the preparation, review and coordination of the annual budget and updating current year forecasts, both above and below the line.  Makes recommendations regarding design and implementation of new budgeting processes and reports.  Assists in training designated budgeters and providing ongoing support as needed.
  •  Assists in the continuing maintenance and development of department software.  Interacts on an as needed basis with the Bank’s software providers.  Trouble-shoots department software-related issues, evaluates the effectiveness of systems and procedures, and answers questions relative to same.  Stays abreast of related system enhancements.
  • Assists with Enterprise Information Management to develop and foster collaboration between data reporting specialists from various business lines. Collaborates with others within the department in production of bank wide profitability reporting utilizing data warehouse and associated tools.
  • Provides assistance in validation of general ledger entries throughout the month and especially at month end.  Assists with scrubbing, closing, and reporting actual financial results.
  • Analyzes Bank performance compared to both Maine and national peer groups. Assists with the completion of Peer Reporting for Executive Committee and Board.
  • Provides specialized or general calculations and analysis in support of various accounting and reporting functions; prepares specialized or highly complex reports, analyses and interpretations utilizing advanced knowledge and proficiency in accounting practices, principles and interrelationships for management and outside agencies.
  • Researches, analyzes and uses independent judgment in a variety of daily and non-routine decisions affecting assigned function.
  • Often involved in multiple projects simultaneously, requiring ability to prioritize and handle potentially stressful situations.
  • Provides solutions to problems presented by lower level staff and recommends changes to accounting systems, methods or procedures to management, utilizing knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Solves problems and recommends changes in procedure that streamline processes and enhance the accuracy and quality of work. 
  • Creates and maintains procedures affecting assigned function as needed for business continuity purposes. 
  • Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of bank goals and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.
  • Conforms to acceptable standards of attendance, punctuality, and conduct as expressed in the Employee Handbook.
  • Performs additional duties as requested.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area AND three to five years of industry related experience. 
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and flexibility to take on new challenges and able to adjust plans to changing needs.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles,
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, mathematical and written communication skills. 
  • Advanced computer skills: ability to learn multiple software programs; excellent proficiency with spreadsheets, database management and word processing programs.

 

Physical Demands/Conditions Requirements: 

  •  General office environment. 
  • Moderate lifting (to 35 lbs) required. 
  • Moderate reaching, walking, sitting and standing required.
